There is an interesting story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den gaming is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly required to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of many borders.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge casino, highlights 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that features numerous comforts on top of the casino, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
