There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, contains 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that contains numerous luxuries on top of the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
